Painted Walks

Go for a walk. Come home with a painted postcard of it.

Flaneur is a mindful walking app. Put your AirPods in, say what you notice, and the walk becomes something you can keep for yourself or share.

Soon on the App Store Mindful Walking is free. Always.

A walk, and then a thing to keep

Four steps. None of them ask you to hurry.

01

Put your AirPods in

Start a walk and pocket the phone. No route to follow, no distance to beat.

02

Say what you notice

Share what you see. A tree, a car, a crack in a wall, a pebble on the ground.

03

Press for a nudge

One button asks you to go a little deeper into what you just said.

04

Paint the postcard

At the end, make a postcard of the walk in your own style. Keep it or send it.

The postcard

Painted from what you said, not from where you went

No map lines, no splits, no badge. A picture of the walk in a style you choose, with your own words on the back. Some people keep them. Some people send them.

A painted postcard made from a walk

Mindful walks are free. Postcards need stamps.

Painting a postcard costs real money, so you bring your own key. Postcard credits, for people who'd rather not, are on the way.

Questions

Is it recording my whole walk?

It listens while a walk is running, because that's the point. Your walks stay on your phone. What you said leaves it only when you paint a postcard — and, if your iPhone can't recognise speech on-device, to Apple's speech service. The privacy page, when the app ships, will list everything that ever leaves the phone.

Do I have to talk?

No. Plenty of walks are silent ones; the postcard is painted from whatever you did say.

What's a BYOK key and do I need one?

For now, yes, if you want to paint: paste a Google Gemini API key and you pay Google directly, at cost. Credits, for people who'd rather not, are coming.

Does it track my route?

Flaneur doesn't track your location. There's no map, no pace, no streak to protect. Wander badly on purpose.

Where can I get it?

Soon on the App Store, for iPhone. The voice companion will be free, so you can try it on the way home the evening it lands.

How long should a walk be?

As long or short as you need it to be.

Take a walk this evening. Bring something back.
